Kid-Friendly Summer Travel Destinations3 min read
For school-aged kids, summer is easily the best time of the year; in their eyes, “summer” is synonymous with “three-month long vacation.”
For parents, however, summer is a long stretch of time during which they need to keep their kids entertained. Sure, there are camps to help with this, but that’s only eight weeks long at most—so what’s a parent to do? Go on a family vacation.
When planning a family vacation, you want to make sure your destination will have plenty of kid-friendly activities, cuisine, and even entertainment for mom and dad.
Although there are plenty of iconic trips (we admit, Disney World never gets old), changing things up can be fun for both you and your kids as you explore new places together. If you’re searching for the perfect kid-friendly summer travel destination, give one of these a try:
Inspired by the ancient lost city of Atlantis, this massive resort is the perfect destination for families with children of all ages (yes—including your teenage son). The Atlantis Resort is located in two different places: the Bahamas or Dubai. At both locations, you’ll find dozens of restaurants, numerous lagoons, miles of beaches, pools, thousands of animals and more. Each resort also has its own waterpark as well.
And if your kids are old enough to explore on their own for a little while, you and your loved one can try your luck at the casino (only at the Bahamas location).
Hilton Waikoloa Village
Situated along the Kohala Coast on the Big Island of Hawaii, Hilton Waikoloa Village is a mini-haven for families that want to vacation, but don’t want to travel far away from the hotel room to have fun. Parents have the option to sign their kids up for Camp Menehune, which is held by the resort and features a number of fun activities, including exploring tidepools, hunting for treasure, and more. While the kids are away at camp, you can spend the afternoon on the golf course, stroll through the tropical gardens, or kick back at the spa. When you do want family bonding time, head over to the nearby lagoon and go kayaking, snorkeling, or whale watching.
Club Med Ixtapa
This family-friendly resort lies between the Sierra Madre Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, and provides an incredible experience for guests. Club Med offers Children’s Clubs for different age groups, from 4 months to 17 years. While kids are occupied with sports activities and arts and crafts, parents can get a luxurious spa treatment, go sailing, attend tennis lessons, or even take a flying trapeze class.
Serengeti National Park
If your kids love animals and don’t mind the heat, take them on a safari at the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, where they can observe gazelles, lions, elephants, hippos and more in their natural habitats. Although most safari packages include lodging, food, and transportation to and from the airport, you do have the option to drive through the park on your own. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was also the inspiration for the “Circle of Life” song from the Lion King. Just try to avoid picking up a baby lion cub and recreating the scene yourself.
