Located in Rome, Italy, The Colosseum is the oldest surviving amphitheater in the world, built around 70 BC. At the time it was built, it was the largest amphitheater, holding up to 80,000 spectators for events like gladiator matches, battle reenactments and classical mythology plays.

Commonly known as Dracula’s Castle, Bran Castle is located in Transylvania, Romania. Although there is no evidence that Bram Stoker, author of Dracula, knew about this castle, there are many legends linking this fortress to the fictional character. It now serves as a museum for art and furniture collected by Romania’s Queen Marie.
Formerly an ancient Mayan city, Chichen Itza is the site of El Castillo, one of the most famous Mayan temples in Mexico. El Castillo served as a temple to the god Kulkulkan, a feathered serpent deity. During the spring and autumn equinoxes, the late afternoon sun casts a series of triangular shadows against the northwest balustrade, creating the illusion of a feathered serpent “crawling” down the pyramid.
Take a tour of the inside of the well-known Sydney Opera House, located in New South Wales, Australia. The structure was designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon and constructed by an Australian architectural team led by Peter Hall. It hosts more than 1,500 performances annually.
The Taj Mahal is an ivory-white mausoleum located in Agra, India. It was commissioned in 1632 by Emperor Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It also contains the tomb of Shah Jahan himself. The 42-acre complex also includes a mosque, a guest house and formal gardens.
Straddling the border between Switzerland and Italy, the Matterhorn is one of the highest peaks of the Alps. Its near-symmetrical peak reaches 14,692 feet high and overlooks the Theodul Pass to the east, a Roman Era trade route. It’s one of the deadliest mountains to climb, but you can safely view its beautiful vistas from your couch!
